Gift giving is a lot of work! But don’t worry, since as your Type A Mom friend my job is to help streamline the behind-the-scenes work of parenting, I have narrowed down the best gifts for ages preschool through 6thgrade. I have a lot of experience with giving and receiving gifts for kids those ages because I’m a mom to three kids who are now 6, 9, and 11 so they've been through that age range and are still in it! And, since I’m a Type A Mom, I’ve researched and kept track of what gifts my kids like for multiple seasons, and are high quality.

PRESCHOOL (ages 2-5)
Costumes: this style of princess dress was my daughter’s favorite and I loved it because it’s machine washable and does not leave a trail of glitter, and this construction costume and this firefighter costume were both favorites of my boys!
Real-life Toys: my sons both loved this tool set that put together toys
Trains: A nice Lionel train set is a favorite of my boys, and Brio train and tracks are so fun to create and can be added on to year after year and last forever
Ride On Toys: My kids loved driving this ride-in car toy with their feet, and a three-wheeled beginner scooter with helmet was super fun for them to use
Art: A nice easel with paper on one side and chalkboard on the other plus set of art accessories to go with it was used by all three of my kids for years
Play Kitchen: My kids used their play kitchen (this is a smaller version of a play kitchen) every day for years and loved all the pots and pans, pretend meals, pretend food and pretend food they could cut, and desserts
Paw Patrol Tower: The Paw Patrol tower is another favorite of all three of my kids (it's really tall and fun) that’s lasted for years
Baby Doll: My daughter loved having a baby doll to play with and push in a stroller and feed in a high chair
Duplo: These Duplos are the best and my kids played with them for years and loved making creations
MagnaTiles: The uses for MagnaTiles are endless and my kids played with them in preschool and still do in elementary school
Trucks: My sons both loved the Bruder trucks – especially their trash truck
Sit-on Excavator: This stationary digger is so fun and my kids use it in both dirt and snow
Cleaning Set: My three kids loved playing with this cleaning set (especially the broom) for years
Music: Both my sons loved playing guitar and singing (in this echo microphone), and this DJ board is super fun
Puzzle: My youngest son loves putting together this large floor United States puzzle and learning the names of the states and this firetruck large puzzle

KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 3RD GRADE (ages 5-9)
Art: This huge arts and crafts set is a forever favorite and used over and over by my three kids
Doll: A larger doll like an American Girl Doll (plus clothes and fun accessories) and Target’s version of that doll has been a favorite of my daughter’s for years and they’re both high quality
Barbies: The Barbie Dreamhouse has given my daughter years of entertainment and fun
Outdoor Toys: Roller Skates in a fun color with helmet are great, a scooter is so fun, and a bike with fun lights to add to the spokes has been great, Stomp Rocket is a forever favorite
Microphone: All three of my kids love using this microphone and small disco light when they perform
Karaoke Set: My kids love this Bluetooth karaoke set and my daughter loves this Wicked karaoke set
Squishmallows: These stuffies are such a hit with all my kids because there are so many silly choices and they’re really cozy to hug and sleep with
Balance Beam: My kids love playing on this balance beam (it folds up for storage) inside and outside
Legos: Lego sets are always a favorite, especially the Lego City sets
Pokemon: Pokemon cards and game, carrying case are long lasting hits for my boys, and they love playing this Pokemon electronic trivia game
Science Kits: National Geographic makes really fun science kits for kids
Clothes: My daughter loves getting fun unique clothes from Lola & The Boys like this skirt and this jacket
Board Games: The biggest board game hits for this age has been The Game of Life, Battleship, Guess Who?
Remote Control Stunt Car: My kids love that this car flips over and is durable
Orb: This light up floating orb is so fun for my kids to balance/float off their hands

4th GRADE THROUGH 6TH GRADE (ages 9-12)
Nintendo Switch 2: This is the hot game console that my kids love, and the two best games right now (according to my kids) are Pokemon Legend Z-A and Hollow Knight Silksong
DIY Bracelets and Bag Charms: This friendship bracelet set is a favorite of my daughter’s and this bag charm kit can be personalized which she’ll love
Indoor/Outdoor Pickleball: My kids love playing pickleball and this kid sized indoor/outdoor pickleball set is a great gift
Ride-On Toys: My older son loves his hoverboard
Jellycat: This brand of stuffy is super hot with kids right now and my daughter has a purse from them that she loves
Books: My older son rereads the graphic novel version of the Iliad and the Odyssey often, he’s always browsing encyclopedias (this is the most current version), and he’s been collecting the illustrated Harry Potter books each time a new one is released
Art: This personalized art set is great for older kids and this huge arts and crafts set is a forever favorite and used over and over by my three kids
